New engine for this website

04/09/2026

This website has been running on WordPress for a while now, which worked well but started to limit me over time. I wanted full control over how it looks, functions, and where my data is physically stored. So, I decided to rebuild the entire engine from scratch.

The new site now runs on my own content management system, hosted entirely on my home server. Pages are rendered on the server-side every time they're accessed, with no unnecessary code slowing things down. No dependencies on external platforms, no subscriptions, and no waiting for someone else to fix bugs.

I deliberately kept the appearance very similar to the previous version: same colors, same fonts, my handwritten logo. What has changed is what's under the hood, not what you see at first glance. The blog, photo gallery, project descriptions, and certificates have all been migrated without any loss.

I also added a few things that weren't here before. The Travel section shows the places I've visited on a map, each with a short description and a link to the related photo gallery. The Gear section is a bit of a show-off about what I work with daily: cameras, 3D printer, DIY tools, with an optional serial number for photography equipment. Only the last digits are publicly visible, I keep the full number private in case of theft. Projects finally got a proper categorization system with filtering.

The images finally have proper screen-sized sizes instead of one stretched file for all situations, so the gallery should look noticeably sharper on large monitors.

I also wanted to prioritise privacy, both mine and yours. I now count website visits using my own tool that I've set up myself, without cookies or sharing anything with any external company. You can read more about this directly in the privacy policy.

It's still a work in progress. I have things like blog post tags and social media integrations on my to-do list. If something doesn't work as expected, please let me know.
